We are excited to announce Kent Adams of Christiansburg as the Rick Whitney Memorial Scholarship recipient. We had many impressive applicants, but in the end Kent's entrepreneurial spirit and business savvy made him stand out.
Kent has been interested in building things ever since he was a child. He started his own business when he was 13 and started out installing fences as well as plumbing, underground water and electrical lines. He still has a business today called Appalachian Property Maintenance, Inc. in which he employs 4 of his classmates. He has even compted in Future Business Leaders of America Leadership Conference and placed at a state level.
At such a young age, Kent is already creating jobs for his peers and instilling his love of building in others, helping to build the future of construction in our area. For this reason, we selected Kent as the recipient of this scholarship. This Fall he will be attending Virginia Tech for engineering and business administration while working to obtain his contractors' license and continuing his local business. We cannot wait to see this young man grow his building business and crush his goals. Well done, Kent!
Throughout the year, the NRVHBA hosts different topics at our Building a Better Business Educational Series. We have asked our members for feedback on what they are needing. It could be construction tips, code changes, OSHA rules, or even basic business topics such as tax, insurance or employment law. Be sure to check out our upcoming events to see what our current session is.
