Sean is a graduate of Blacksburg High School and the Charles E. Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech and has completed some coursework towards a Masters Degree in Architecture. Sean is the Owner of Slate Creek Builders, LLC and holds a Virginia Class A Contractor’s License. He is a third generation Civil Engineer and Builder and grew up in and around construction, working for his family's construction and development company as well as several local builders while growing up in Blacksburg and attending Virginia Tech. After college, Sean was a partner in a production residential framing business in Denver, Colorado before pursuing a career developing technologies integrating real world positioning with virtual three dimensional models. Many of these systems are components of what is now known as Building Information Modeling (BIM). Through various roles in Engineering, Marketing and Sales, Sean has worked in a variety of interesting industries and scenarios including weapons testing with the DOD, DOE WIPP and NNSS sites, wind tunnel research with NASA, accident and crime scene investigations with the FBI, NTSB, and several Metro Police and Public Safety Departments. Sean has worked on Hollywood special effects, been into the core of a nuclear reactor, worked with NASCAR teams, and helped repair and retrofit Aircraft Carriers, Submarines and Destroyers. Sean's work has also brought him onto construction projects all over the world and onto some of the largest and most complex construction projects in North America including Frank Gehry projects, airports, stadiums and arenas, hospitals, high-rises, government and military bases/facilities.
Since founding Slate Creek Builders in 2010, Sean has focused on education as his custom design/build company has evolved. Sean is an at large member of NAHB Remodelers and is an annual attendee of NAHB’s International Builders Show where he attends educational sessions, discovers new products and networks with other builders. Sean has received NAHB certifications for CGP (Certified Green Professional) and CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) and is working on the final requirements for both CGR and CGB designations (Certified Graduate Remodeler and Builder).
Sean also joined and is the Chairman of his NAHB Builder 20 Club - Remodeler club R9 - ‘The Mavericks’. Builder 20 assembles builders from all over the country to work together to improve all aspects of their construction businesses. The Mavericks are Sean’s de facto ‘Board of Directors’ and the group collaborates on any and all business related issues including financials, comprehensive sales through production processes, succession planning and anything else that may come up in a typical day as a builder.
